| dc.description.abstract | El objetivo del artículo es analizar las ideas del ingeniero Francisco Bulnes acerca de lo que se denominó la “cuestión cubana”, mismas que aparecieron en diversos artículos periodísticos y que llevarían a Carlos de Olaguíbel a proponerle que realizaran un debate “científico” del asunto, el cual no produjo ningún resultado debido a que las opiniones de Bulnes no fueron bien recibidas por su contrincante. Sin embargo, evidenciaba el interés que tenían algunos intelectuales mexicanos sobre la situación en la isla y les incomodaba el silencio impuesto por las autoridades mexicanas que buscaban mantener la neutralidad. Al igual que muchos de sus contemporáneos, Bulnes manifestaría su pesimismo ante la derrota española de 1898 ya que constituía una muestra de la supremacía “racial” de los anglosajones, por lo que creía que el futuro de los países hispanoamericanos se presentaba sombrío debido a su herencia española que les impedía transitar por la senda del progreso. | es_MX |

| dc.description.abstractEnglish | The objective of the article is to analyze the ideas of the engineer Francisco Bulnes about what was called the "Cuban question", which appeared in various journalistic articles and that would lead Carlos de Olaguíbel to propose that they carry out a "scientific" debate on the matter, which did not produce any result because the opinions of Bulnes were not well received by his opponent. However, it showed the interest that some Mexican intellectuals had on the situation on the island and they were uncomfortable with the silence imposed by the Mexican authorities that sought to maintain neutrality. Like many of his contemporaries, Bulnes manifested his pessimism in the face of the Spanish defeat of 1898 as it constituted a sample of the "racial" supremacy of the Anglo-Saxons, for which he believed that the future of the Latin American countries was bleak due to its Spanish heritage that prevented them from traveling on the path of progress. | es_MX |
